Penguins of Madagascar

Image
Hey guys! I recently just saw a movie called Penguins of Madagascar. The Penguins of Madagascar movie was about four penguins who are on a mission to defeat the evil octopus, Dave. The funny thing is, that they don't even remember Dave! The octopus doesn't  like the penguins because when he was in the New York Zoo everyone was interested in him, until the penguins came. The cuteness of the penguins distracted everyone from the cool octopus. The poor thing was shipped from here to there, always losing to the penguins. Finally, he had had enough! Dave was through with always getting ignored. He hatched a plan to change all penguins, not just the four, from cute and cuddly to mean and ugly! There are four penguins: Skipper- the leader, Kowalski- the smart one, Rico- the crazy one, and Private- the cute one. No one thought of private as a real member. They only kept him in the team because he was cute! But, when Dave turned all the penguins into mean and ugly monsters, Priv...

Thanksgiving!

Image
Hi everyone! I bet most of you are excited about the upcoming holiday, Thanksgiving! I know I am! Thanksgiving is the time of year when we should be thankful for what we have. It is when we all come together as a family and spend time together. On Thanksgiving, it is a tradition for many families across the nation to have a big turkey feast! When everyone is together as a family, you realize how important family is. They raised you, guided you, and they are people you can trust. But most important, is that they love you. That is the true meaning of Thanksgiving. I hope you have a wonderful holiday and remember, be thankful!

Locked in the Library

Image
Hi everyone! Today's post is just a fun little story that I whipped up. Hope you enjoy it!               It was Thursday, July 18. The year was 1989. It was a hot summer day. The wind was blowing across a field of green grass and flowers. 14 year-old Ally McDawn's house was just opposite that field. School had ended a month back and since then, everyday, Ally would stare out the window or frolic in the field. She loved watching the flowers dance in the wind. Ally's house was just 10 minutes away from school and 5 minutes away from the library. Ally loved to read, almost as much as she loved to play in the field. Every week, She'd go to the library and check out enough books to last her the entire month, but she'd finish reading them all in a day or two. The librarian, Mrs. Cork, enjoyed having Ally take home so many books because this assured her that not all teenagers were controlled by electronic devices. Wh...

Veterans Day

Image
November 11 is Veterans Day. This is the day that we get to honor all those people who are fighting for our rights every second of every day. America fought hard to gain independance, and in 1776 its dream came true. The patriot army was led by none other than General George Washington. We defeated the British at the Battle of Yorktown. The Veterans are the people who keep us safe. They are the Patriot army of modern day. The Veterans are strong, brave, courageous and determined. But most of all, they are heroes. For all their services, I say a sincere "Thank You" to all the Veterans. Click on the links below to access videos  that are a tribute to veterans day! God Bless The USA We are proud of our veterans

Halloween!

Image
Boo! Haha, I bet I got you there! You know what time of year it is. Halloween! I love Halloween, it's one of my favorite holidays! We all love to dress up and scare people. If not, then we love to dress up. We all know Halloween as a holiday where we go trick-or-treating, but here is a legend that explains how Halloween came to be... It was a dark and stormy night, and the moon was full. The quiet little hill was no longer quiet anymore. October 30th is hallow's eve and that is when all the creatures of the night come alive. Vampires, goblins, ghouls, cyclops, and even witches come to haunt the little hill. On that hill lived a number of people who were terrified of the spirits of the night. An old and wise man who lived on that hill came up with an idea. He said to the people," Vampires hate pumkins, so let us all bring pumpkins and carve a scary face into it so that the vampires get scared away." Everyone acknowledged the old man's words and did exactl...

Fun Facts!

Image
Hi Everyone! In this post, I'll be sharing a few fun facts with you! Hope you enjoy them. :-) When do ants sleep? Never! They don't sleep! You can't keep your eyes open while sneezing, it's impossible! The little dot above the "i" is called a "Tittle". If spell the word "Racecar" backwards, you still get "Racecar"! Teddy Bears got their name after President Teddy Rosevelt. Fish sleep with their eyes open! The longest word you can spell with the top line of the keyboard is "Typewriter" The sentence, " The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" uses all the letters of the alphabet. No word in the English language rhymes with "orange". The song "Happy Birthday is copyrighted.

Mental Math

Image
Hi! This week lots of us have gone back to school! To get into the school spirit, I thought of posting this bit of information I found out! Hope you find it Mathtastic! Adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying are things that we must know how to do. It seems like a nuisance trying to memorize our multiplication tables or to do long division. In school, when we are asked to learn our facts we often think that we’re never going to use them. What good are they? But as we grow older we realize that to do more complicated math, we must know the basics. Not only do we use math in our everyday lives, but our brain also recognizes itself as we learn math. This was proved by a team of scientists from Stanford University in California. These scientists had proven this by performing an experiment involving 28 students between the ages of 7 to 9 years old. Each person was given a basic math problem such as, 3+4=7. The students then had to press a button to confirm whether thi...

A Little Princess

Image
Hi everyone! I picked up a movie yesterday called A Little Princess.  I  had read the book, but I hadn't seen the movie. I thought, "It should be interesting to compare the movie to the book." With that in mind, I bought it.  The movie was a touching story about a little girl named Sara Crewe. Sara's father, Mr. Crewe, had to go into war. He put Sara under the responsibility of Miss Minchin's Seminary for Girls. When they arrived, Miss Minchin was there to greet them. She seemed very kind. The cold truth was that she was more interested in Sara's wealth rather than Sara herself. Miss Minchin lead the way to  little Sara's  room. While there, Mr. Crewe had to bid farewell to his daughter, for his boat would leave in a few minutes. He gifted his little princess a doll from France which he named Emily. "Whenever you miss me dearly," he said to Sara, "tell Emily. She will send me a message no matter where I am. When you hug her, you'll rea...

Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars

Image
Hi there! Today I was watching a movie on Netflix called "Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars!" It is a Disney movie starring Jennifer Stone. A girl named Harriet Welsch is determined to win the title of class blogger. While on her "mission" Harriet realizes that the best thing to blog about was right in front of her! Harriet's entire school is obsessed with this new pop star named Skander Hills, the star of   the movie her father was producing called    Spy Teen .  But as she became more popular at school because of her blog, her friends had started to abandoned her. Before she knew it, Harriet had blogged about being "best friends" with Skander, and to prove it she went to extremes! She snuck onto the set, into his hotel room, and even followed him home! The final straw was when she posted on her blog that Skander hates his fans. Her father was about to lose the movie deal, that's when Harriet stepped in. Somehow she convinced Skander to do the movie.  ...

Tuesdays at the Castle

Image
Hey there! I thought I'd tell you about a book I just read. It is called Tuesdays at the Castle . I thought that it would be just another story about a prince and princess. But since I was bored, I thought, 'Why not read the first few chapters?'  The story takes place in a magical castle, with a king and queen. They had three children. Rolf, the oldest, was heir to the throne. Next was Delilah, she's the one who keeps things under control. Finally, there's little Cecelia, she was the castle's favorite and was mostly interested in the room and passageways. One day, the king and queen went out to the college of wizards. While on their way, they get ambushed by bandits. When news of their death devastates the kingdom, everyone turns to Rolf for a new leader. Meanwhile, neighboring kingdoms and his own council are plotting against him! The castle warns the three children and with the help of the maids and cooks, they defeat the p...

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela

Image
Today is Nelson R.  Mandela's  Birthday. Born today, July 18th, in 1918, Nelson was about to make a difference. Who was Nelson Mandela? He was South America's first black chief executive, and the first elected in a completely representative democratic election. He also helped a lot to dismantle the system of apartheid, or separateness. Apartheid was South Africa's policy of racial discrimination  from 1948-1994. A majority of native South Africans were treated as lower-class compared to people with fairer skin. Nelson was set out to demolish this discrimination. It landed him in prison for 27 years. After he was released, Nelson worked hard towards a better future for everyone in South Africa. Today  Nelson R.  Mandela is famous for his long fight to racial prejudice. He became a hero in the eyes of everyone for his bravery and persistence. Today on his 96th birthday, we remember him not only as the person who fought against racial prejudice, but as a person wh...
