Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela

Apartheid was South Africa's policy of racial discrimination from 1948-1994. A majority of native South Africans were treated as lower-class compared to people with fairer skin. Nelson was set out to demolish this discrimination. It landed him in prison for 27 years. After he was released, Nelson worked hard towards a better future for everyone in South Africa. Today Nelson R. Mandela is famous for his long fight to racial prejudice. He became a hero in the eyes of everyone for his bravery and persistence. Today on his 96th birthday, we remember him not only as the person who fought against racial prejudice, but as a person who stood up for what he believed in. Happy Birthday Mr. Mandela!
